She was the "Queen of Tejano Music." Tom Brokaw called her the "Madonna of Mexico". But to many of us, she was simply called Selena.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was an American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress and fashion designer whose contributions to the music and fashion industry made her one of the most celebrated Mexican American entertainers of the end of the 20th Century. Sadly, Selena was taken from this world far too soon. This month, Alamo Drafthouse continues our tradition of remembering Selena on her birthday (April 16) with a special screening of the the 1997 film SELENA, starring Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos.
We'll have novelty props to use during the film, including a lyric sheet so you can sing-along to all of the songs. Also, don't forget to come early as our pre-show will be completely dedicated to Selena with her music videos and rare, hard to find interviews.
